I had an intermittent electric window problem on the passenger side and thought it must be a broken wire in the harness between the passenger door and the car body. I undid the rubber boot but found all seemed ok. I then disconnected the multipin socket at the pillar, still no sign of damage. I then reconnected it and have found that not only does the window not work but neither does the central locking on that door nor the remote mirror of the same side. Does anyone know what i have done wrong.

You have moved the wiring it may look ok but the conductors are broken inside the insulation you need to check teh continuity of each wire from each switch etc using a meter to measure the resistance.

They break really often and always in places you cant see

Thanks Neil, I assume the wires are broken between the connector and the parts inside the door. Anyone know how to get the door trim off. Is it best to buy a loom from Ford?

removing door card mk2

this and much more useful info - including repairing the wires is in the faq (click on the red link in my signature :P ) while you're at it giving us some car details will help us to help you (click on the other read link in my sig  )

Much cheaper to splice in some nw quality wires - broken ones are likely to be in the door boot gaiter where they have been flexed - usually broken inside the insulation

Hi, I have a 97 Galaxy si, recently the front drivers side window stopped working. It doesn't even make a noise and the global open/close on the key opens the passenger side window but not the drivers. Could this still be a wire problem or is it more likely to be the motor itself. I partly removed the door card to expose the motor but don't have a clue what to do next! Any help would be great :angry2:

It seems to me that the wiring in the flexible rubber boot is always the first suspect.

I have a 98 Gal and my rear driver's side window stopped working some while ago - when I exposed the wiring I found one of the cables had broken (a fat brown one if I remember correctly).

If the window works when you press the window button but not when you use the door key then it won't be the power cable but another one - but that would also mean it's not the motor.

It the window is not working at all then check the cabling first. If you have a meter you could test for 12V at the motor terminal when you operate the key or press the window button. It you don't get power then it is not like to be the motor.

Thanks Giles,

It seems I have a wire problem alright, I pulled the rubber boot over and the insulation on a green/red coloured wire is broken. I'm not sure if this is the problem but it's somewhere to start.

hi

i have the same problem with my 2003 gal. i took the gaitor off to see a couple of bared cables and one broken one. i insulated the cables and fixed the broken one, but now none of the switches, mirror controls or central locking button work.

when i took the gaitor from the door pillar, the supporting ring came away as well and now the connector behind the door pillar is loose. any idea how to secure back with the retaining ring so i can correctly align the loom connector?

the windows work fine on the other doors independantly so i guess either all the loom wires are broke(as it was really tight getting it out) or i havent connected it properly as its all loose and misaligned.

any help or advice is greatly appreciated

many thanks
